Say Hello, Cy Twombly, To The Corner of 76th Street

a large coming soon banner for gagosian in the corner storefront window of the limestone building where gagosian has had gallery space on two floors for decades, but which is now being cleared out for the bloomberg foundation offices, anyway this black and white photo of a towering cy twombly, old, in his loose khakis and jacket, smiling while behind him is hung the giant painting he spent decades not finishing, which is now at the menil in houston, but which was first exhibited at gagosian's space on wooster street in soho, which is now a hauser & wirth space btw, point is, real estate ig. it's not clear but not impossible to think that kappa masa, larry's underground sushi lair, will also survive the bloomberg move.
but back to the photo, the nickel finish mullions and granite base are blocked by standard orange barriers and cones and some janky painted wood pieces, while an old white guy in a green puffer vest and beanie, echoing twombly's own hands in pockets stance, walked right in front of twombly, and kind of blocked my shot. i was sure i had iphone live photo on, and I'd be able to pick a less obtrusive frame, but no. please construct an unobstructed image in your mind, and then stick a guy right in the wrong place for it, and you've got it. — GAGOSIAN Coming soon
