New film weblogs: just add water?

[via BuzzMachine] Jason Calacanis (I can't believe I just typed that) has launched three new film-related weblogs, or Weblogs, Inc's: a Sundance-related blog, a documentary blog, and an independent film blog. So far, the operating premise seems to be, "We read IndieWIRE so you don't have to," but let's give them a chance.

Hello,

My name is Angela Coverson and I work for the DC Independent Film Festival.

Dear DCIFF Friends,
In desperate need of a shot of young, local filmmaking talent this summer? Want to see what programming DCIFF will be sending off to Paris and London in the fall? We thought so, which is why DCIFF will host a Summer Series event, (July 7-21), featuring more independent films from the DC area than you can shake a stick at! The purpose of the Summer Series is to give DC and surrounding areas insight regarding the local film scene; create a base of independent filmgoers, and provide programs that get the community involved in independent film.
Featuring events like:
ï Open Screen - like an open mic, but with a film screen
ï Seminars - covering topics from Animation to How to get in the film business, lead by DC film experts
ï Classic Indie ìFirstsî ñ a look at the first films of todayís renowned filmmakers
ï Best of DCIFF ñ Selections of DC filmmakers who previously won awards from the DCIFF
ï Öand the most important event, New Directors, New Visions (ND, NV) ñ a showcase of four shorts and one feature film, all made by a young crop of local independent filmmakers. This showcase will be the main component of the Paris/London tour and is not to be missed!
Pertinent Info:
Opening Night ñ July 7, AFI Silver
Two week engagement ñ July 8-21, Cinema Arts Theatre, Fairfax VA

Since 2001 here at greg.org, I've been blogging about the creative process—my own and those of people who interest me. That mostly involves filmmaking, art, writing, research, and the making thereof.

Many thanks to the Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Program for supporting greg.org that time.
