Jeff "Many Irons in the Fire" Jarvis posts an interesting proposal: weblog up Iraq in the name of free expression and democracy.

An earlier post of Salam Pax's about discovering free internet access got him started thinking, you see, now he wants to create "a hundred Salam Paxes."

I'm sure the New Yorker won't complain. Get a subscription to Salam Pax's favorite magazine here. Hint: it makes a great, humanitarian gift.

Now some more folks are picking up on it, including Slate writer Paul Boutin and MSNBC weblogger Glenn Reynolds.

THIS sounds like a job for the Gates Foundation

To the Family of Enzo Baldoni.
My name is Natie Kroukam. I was the captain of the flight that Enzo had written about (from Amman to Baghdad). The first officer of that day told me a while ago that Enzo was the Italian reporter who was killed by the Iraqi insurgents shortly after he flew with us. This had bothered me and eventually managed to find information on the Bloghdad that confirmed the tragic news.
I feel honored to have had the opportunity to meet Enzo. Enzo was one of the type of people that one meet in life that makes an impression on you the moment one comes in contact with him.
During the flight we shared some fun, judging from the photographs he had taken and published. I have also taken some pictures of Enzo, which I will gladly send to you if you so wish.
In summary, although it took me a year and a half to eventually find some point of contact with you, I would just like to echo all the sentiments of all his colleagues and friends. Enzo had a pleasant sense of being and enjoyed the passion of his profession. You, the family and the reporting fraternity can be truly proud of Enzo, as I am for having spent about 40 minutes of his remarkable life.

Best Regards,
Natie Kroukam

Since 2001 here at greg.org, I've been blogging about the creative process—my own and those of people who interest me. That mostly involves filmmaking, art, writing, research, and the making thereof.

Many thanks to the Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Program for supporting greg.org that time.
